Essence Makeup Launch Party

Last night I got the pleasure of attending the Essence makeup launch party at the Hotel Ocho last night.  It was such an amazing event! Food galore, delicious cocktails, nail and makeup stations, and tons upon tons of Essence makeup for grabs!  The line comes from the UK and is voted as the worlds best budget makeup line.  The products cost as little as $1-$5!!! Amazing!  I was hesitant about the amount of quality the products would have, but I was pleasantly surprised!  The nail polish has a hefty dose of high quality pigmented colour, the bronzer leaves me looking like a beach babe, and the lipsticks are moisturizing as well as colorful. Essence is not yet available in stores but it is coming to Canada soon and will be seen on the shelfs of Shoppers Drug Mart.  Definitely check it out if your are looking for a budget friendly brand to replace some of your expensive splurge items!

After Christmas Beauty Wishlist

Massive dinners followed by gigantic desserts are now in the past, the Christmas season is over and it is time to reflect on all those things we wanted but didn't get.  I keep a note in my iphone going at all times with beauty products I hear about and WANT!  Products you just have to have and have heard about from your friends, from blogs, or from magazines, that you haven't tried yet.  I have a pretty long list going so I figured I would share.  So here it is, my after Christmas, after boxing, day after everything was on sale and isnt anymore wish list!! Or maybe it should be called my WANT list since since aint nobody but myself will be buying these gems.

Numero Uno on my list is:

Urban Decay's Urbanbrow Precision-Tip Brow Tint

As a women with eyebrows that tend to do their own thing, I am always on the look out for new ways to fill them in and tame the unruly things.  This felt-tip pen look-a-like comes in blonde and brown (so easy to pick your shade) and is said to fill in brows lightly, leaving the harsh look behind.  It also claims to be fool-proof, mess-proof, or you could say dummy-proof.  But the best part being that it is smudge-proof, it is a pet peeve of mine when you see eyebrows running down a ladies face.  This will stop the mess in it's tracks, I don't know about you but this to me is worth the every penny of the 20 dollar price tag.

Number Two:

Urban Decay's Naked2 Pallet

Another Urban Decay product, they are on a roll with me.
The sequel to the best-selling eyeshadow pallet Naked, a new round up of neutral but stunning colors has been released.  The pallet is perfect for travel, putting in your purse, or for use every day sitting on your bathroom vanity.  The packaging is small but incases a multitude of options.  You will never be looking for that elusive color you don't have to complete a look, every color you need for day to day or for night is in here.  It also includes a mini sample of one of their lipglosses (Bonus!).  The set is not yet available in stores but you can hop on over to sephora.com to get your hands on it early.

Number Three:

Sephora Collection Ultra Vinyl Lip Pencil

I love that this lip pencil not only looks like an actual pencil but that it paints like a lipstick.  This chic little device is noted to paint your lips shiny, leaving you with a look that is uber glam.  Regular lipsticks just don't achieve that vinyl shine that I have been searching for and lipglosses don't have the holding power that lipsticks have. This will be the best of both worlds. I am lusting over "miami pink" and "Fuchsia Fever" but if these don't tickle your fancy then there are eight shiny shades to choose from.

Number Three:

Origins Underwear for Lashes

I am a lash gal in and out, if I was stranded on a deserted island I would take with me mascara!  There is just nothing that looks as good as flirty full lashes.  So when those lashes need a little boost, this product is said to give them a lift.  Applied under mascara (get it under-wear) to give that little extra ommpphaaaa!  It works well for both the timid gal who wants a softer lash or the voluminous vixen who wants big, full lashes.

Number Four:

 Fresh Prime and Glow

This mini pack is travel ready as well as trial ready.  Giving you the options to use and compare the two to find your best match for primer heaven.  I love the brand fresh and have a number of products from them.  Their scent is not overwhelming and their products are true to the description given on the bottle.  These two stellar products can be put under foundation or left to fend for themselves alone.  It is said to give a glowing complexion without having to use a lot of makeup.  It also is said to help cover imperfections of the skin such as larger pores and color differences.

Number Five:

Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil

My skin has taken on a life of its own as a crazy dry flakey monster that sucks up any moisturizer in its path.  As we all know this can be frustrating when trying to put on any makeup and it can also be painful!  My skin actually hurts.  I have tried so many products and Im almost at the point of giving up.  Until I heard about this product, a cleaner that moisturizes as well as cleanses.  Am I in heaven??  Good old argan oil, can't go wrong there.  This product is said to leave your skin moisturized but not feeling oily, it is also free of parabens and tons of other not good for the environment or you! things.  I cannot wait to try this out and finally get salvation!

So ends my beauty WANT list, what do you have on your after Christmas list?

I want Red Pants!

In the spirit of the holidays... or wait, let me rephrase that.  In the ending of the holiday season the colors of red, greed, gold, silver, and any other holiday-ish color are still ringing in my head much like sugarplums.  It is quite fitting that I am currently wearing red and green pajamas, yes I got them for Christmas, and yes it is fueling the red demons in my head.  Actually it is making me really want a pair of bright red jeans.  I may be a tad behind on this trend but at the mo (moment!) I am low on funds which means waiting to jump on the trend wagon.

I don't know what it is about red pants that instantly turn an outfit from so-so to ahhh-mazing, but it totally keeps me staring as a pair of red legs walks by.  The trickyness with buying a pair of colored denim is "how long will the trend last"??  I've seen bright blue come and go, as well as an array of circus inspired colors, But I have to say, I think red pants are here to stay.  At least until I get bored and like a new color! hehe...

It is my opinion that red pants display an easy sexiness without the usual tactic of showing skin a little skin.  It adds a little vixen vibe to a drab wardrobe, it enhances a crisp white shirt, and it can plays up jewel tone prints.

One thing to keep in mind, when wearing red pants it is important to fit that right cut four your body type.  Wearing a cigarette cut jean when you should definitely be wearing a flare will leave you in the proverbial red pants dust.  Since red is such a bold color, others will naturally be looking at your legs, therefore it is so important to dress them properly. You do not want a little crack ruining your red parade!!

Here are a few of my fav red looks in a few different cuts.

Did I mention I am obsessed with celebrities in red pants...

Perfect use of the red pant, go Nikki!

Perfect example of how NOT to wear red pants!!!!!!!
Bad Julianna!

What is your opinion on red denim? Take it or leave it for another season???

Grace Kelly: Movie Star to Princess

Grace Kelly is one of those women that everyone idolizes, she may not be here today but her presence is still felt.  She was an idol in her own rights, to millions of little girls who dreamt of becoming a princess, and to millions of women who wished to look that good doing it.
I began thinking of Grace Kelly mostly because the TIFF Lightbox has an exhibit about her (Grace Kelly: From Movie Star to Princess).  As I walked by the promotional posters for it I couldn't help but think of how beautiful she was.  And for her beauty to look that good so many years later, she to me, is the definition of timeless.  I haven't gone to the exhibit yet, but I intent to go when I return to Toronto after the holidays.  In the mean time I looked up a few facts about her.  Here are ten facts I found that make her such a fascinating person:

1. Her father, Jack, was a millionaire entrepreneur, he won an Olympic Gold Medal, and also carried out a career as a politician - pretty impressive!

2. She graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City at the age of 19

3. She was named #13 greatest actress in the American Film Institutes 50 Greatest Screen Legends

4. In 1993, the USA and Monaco simultaneously released a commemorative postage stamp honoring her.

5. Her favorite flowers were roses. After her death, Prince Rainier of Monaco opened a public rose garden in Monaco.

6. Chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history (#5). [1995]

7. Kelly's wedding gown was the most expensive garment that MGM designer Helen Rose had ever made. It used twenty-five yards of silk taffeta and one hundred yards of silk net. Its 125-year-old rose point lace was purchased from a museum and thousands of tiny pearls were sewn on the veil.

8. While pregnant with Princess Caroline of Monaco, Grace often used her Hermes bag to shield her belly from prying paparazzi. The company nicknamed that purse "the Kelly bag".

9. Princess Grace brought a special aura of excitement and sophistication to Monaco that contributed to the growth of the principality into a major tourist haven and a playground for the rich and famous.

10. The death of Princess Grace was felt around the world. The family of the princess acknowledged the
receipt of tens of thousands of letters and cards of condolence.

She is truly a beautiful women.
